SEO Automation for Three Brands: Keywords, Content and Backlinks Without Human Intervention

Doing SEO seriously requires three things at once: identifying keywords worth targeting, producing optimised content at a steady pace, and building links to the site. Three different disciplines. And when you manage multiple brands, the difficulty multiplies. That was exactly the situation Distr'Action found itself in — a group specialising in radio spot production, voice-over, sound design and podcasts: three brands, three websites, and an SEO workload that demanded as much energy as budget.
We delivered a single SEO automation engine connected to all three sites simultaneously. Here is what we built, what got in the way, and how you can apply this to your own organisation.
A Resource Problem, Not a Willingness Problem
SEO is the first thing to be abandoned when schedules get busy. It is not a lack of conviction — it is a matter of time and cost. Keyword research is rarely done in-house. Link building even less so. And regularly writing optimised articles requires either a dedicated writer, an agency, or an external contractor — budget lines that few SMEs can sustain over the long term.
For Distr'Action, the constraint was clear: three brands, each with its own target audiences and subject areas, and no organisation capable of absorbing that volume of SEO work on a continuous basis. The decision to automate was not a bet on technology. It was the only realistic answer to the problem.
What We Built
An n8n hub drives the entire process. It covers four functions:
Keyword Research
The engine automatically identifies keywords to target for each brand, based on their positioning and high-potential topics. No fixed list: the research runs continuously.
Article Generation and Publishing
From the identified keywords, the system writes an optimised article, checks that no equivalent topic has already been covered, then publishes directly to the relevant site's database. No human action is required between topic detection and going live.
Link Building
Building inbound links is part of the scope. This component runs in parallel with content production, brand by brand.
Position and Backlink Tracking
A shared dashboard centralises the average position and backlinks for all three sites. At a glance, you can see what is progressing, what is stagnating, and where to focus adjustments if needed.
What Got in the Way: The Duplicate Problem
The first versions of the system had a serious flaw: the workflows looped back over the same list of topics. As a result, two sites could cover the same subject simultaneously, creating redundancy and diluting the effort.
The solution was to introduce a shared publication register. Before launching the writing of an article, the system consults this register and checks that no other brand in the group has already published on that topic. If it has, the topic is discarded and another is selected. This safeguard was the missing link. Without it, the automation produced volume without overall coherence.
This is the kind of friction that is invisible on paper and only discovered when running the system under real conditions. Fixing it took time, but the shared register is now the heart of the multi-brand logic.
Concrete Results
Between May and August 2026, fifty articles were published on just one of the three sites, without human intervention. Keyword and backlink tracking runs in parallel for the other two brands. The publishing cadence is consistent — which is precisely what SEO demands and what teams could not maintain manually.

What This Really Changes
The gain goes beyond content production. The entire SEO workload — keywords, writing, link building, position tracking — runs without an agency or a full-time employee managing it. For an SME, this is a fundamental shift: you move from SEO done in bursts whenever time allows, to SEO that advances every week regardless of how busy the schedule is.
Few organisations can afford continuous SEO monitoring over the long term. That is precisely what this tool makes possible, at a structurally different cost from an agency.

How to Apply This to Your Own Organisation
This type of engine is not reserved for multi-brand groups. As soon as you have a site to rank and content production is the first thing you keep postponing, automation makes sense.
A few questions to ask yourself before getting started:
- Do you have a list of topics to cover, even a partial one? The engine can start from there.
- Is your site running on WordPress or a CMS with an API? Automatic publishing is directly possible.
- Do you manage multiple sites or brands? The shared register is the key component to plan for from the outset.
We have documented our entire approach on our dedicated automation page. There you will find concrete use cases and starting points based on your situation.
Conclusion
This project confirmed one thing for us: SEO automation is not a theoretical promise. Fifty articles published over four months on a single site, without human intervention, with position and backlink tracking running continuously — that is a measurable result, achieved with tools accessible to any serious SME.
